The ICT<\/strong> sector, and Telecoms<\/strong> mostly, are considered to be the main \u00abDigital Accelerator<\/strong>\u00bb for Greek economy.<\/p>\n

Digitization<\/strong>, interconnectivity<\/strong> and modernization go through these, with infrastructures<\/strong>, services<\/strong> and products<\/strong> constantly evolving, to the benefit of businesses and consumers. New Generation Networks (NGN<\/strong>) are now on their way to implementation, with large-scale projects in progress, and providers seeing their investments finally come to fruition!<\/p>\n

It all points to Digital<\/strong> Transformation<\/strong> and Techonomy<\/strong> acting as catalysts to the transformation of Greek economy as a whole.<\/p>\n

InfoCom World Conference<\/strong> (www.infocomworld.gr<\/a>) is the largest Conference for Telecoms<\/strong>, IT<\/strong> and Media<\/strong> in SE Europe<\/strong>, and an annual meeting point for digital<\/strong> industry<\/strong> executives<\/strong>. Having evolved to an institution years ago, it opens its gates for the 19th<\/sup><\/strong> time this year, on 25<\/strong> October<\/strong> 2017<\/strong>, at the Divani<\/strong> Caravel<\/strong> Hotel<\/strong>, seeking the digital ways to the much anticipated Grecovery<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<\/div>

After several years of planning, delays, promises and going back & forth, we see a real project come into shape, for the implementation of high speed networks.<\/p>\n

On the way to the \u00abGigabit Society<\/strong>\u00bb, Internet<\/strong> of Things<\/strong> and 5G<\/strong>, there is an actual need<\/strong> for New Generation Networks, of high capacity, speed and reliability.<\/p>\n

The main components for this are VDSL<\/strong>, fiber<\/strong> optics<\/strong>, wireless<\/strong> networks<\/strong> and satellite<\/strong> coverage<\/strong>, based around NGA<\/strong> Plan<\/strong>, Superfast<\/strong> Broadband<\/strong> and Rural<\/strong> Extension<\/strong>. All of the above, combined with accepting a regulatory framework by HTPC and the express government support for digital projects, a positive climate grows in this market.<\/p>\n

Providers have already submitted their investment<\/strong> plans, and it all points that the 1st quarter of 2018 will signal our escape<\/strong> from the digital underdevelopment in this country, with the start of bidding contests for large-scale projects<\/strong> that concern new generation telecom networks.<\/p>\n

Telecom providers seem ready to accelerate<\/strong> their investments on new generation networks (NGA). However, they ask for state support in order to substantially facilitate licensing procedures, and secure their investments.<\/p>\n

In this section we\u2019ll discuss market needs, plans to implement projects, funding tools, strategic partnerships, and of course PPP (Public & Private Partnerships) practices, that now seem to be well on their way.<\/p>\n<\/div>

2nd Session: Digital Transformation: Need for disruption!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>

Having already made the transition<\/strong> from the age of digital innovation<\/strong>, to one of digital applications evolution, we see an increasing<\/strong> number<\/strong> of<\/strong> businesses<\/strong> integrate these technologies to their daily operations. From the production level to customer service provision, digital<\/strong> technologies<\/strong> are here, always present, to upgrade<\/strong> productivity<\/strong> and competitiveness<\/strong>. This development allowed them to compete on equal<\/strong> terms with larger organizations, relieving them of the need for too high (for their size) initial capital investments.<\/p>\n

But what do providers, the State and citizens expect from e-Government<\/strong>, local administration from Smart<\/strong> Cities<\/strong>, and businesses from Digital<\/strong> Transformation<\/strong>? What are today\u2019s development<\/strong> tools<\/strong> and how have they evolved<\/strong>? Which stage is Electronic<\/strong> Governance<\/strong> at? Is the time right for businesses to view digital tools as a means for their own development and a way to maintain their competitiveness? Are citizens the focus of \u00absmart<\/strong>\u00bb services? Are there any win-win practices for customers and businesses? In what way can consulting<\/strong>, analysis and Big<\/strong> Data<\/strong> services, become new<\/strong> revenue<\/strong> sources<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

It all points that Greece\u2019s position at the Digital Economy & Society Index, does not only reflect upon lacking infrastructures, but also limited integration of digital technologies in businesses<\/strong>. It often proves that administrations follow a more \u00abtraditional\u00bb approach, with a low degree of trust in digital media, concerning the ratio of investment to return.<\/p>\n

Also, it seems that citizens have not acquired a common<\/strong> digital<\/strong> conscience<\/strong>, and while acceptance of social networking is almost total, electronic<\/strong> payments<\/strong> still have a long way to becoming the main transaction venue.<\/p>\n

So, daily digital services prove to be \u00abkey<\/strong>\u00bb to digital conscience and highlighting a new kind of businesses, that are more flexible<\/strong> than competition, and as such are in a better position to create new innovative<\/strong> services<\/strong>, thus ensuring a competitive advantage not only in Greece, but globally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>

3rd Session: Leaders\u2019 Summit – Keep calm and invest!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>

Given that the regulatory framework is basically complete<\/strong>, while the State has expressed its support to Digital Transformation, the way to investments is now open<\/strong>. Telcos are already in position to receive their share of digital projects, while tech suppliers have completed the first implementations<\/strong>, focused around \u201csmart\u201d cities and similar services.<\/p>\n

Already steps are being taken, with the adoption of measures<\/strong> able to decrease the cost of developing new generation networks, but it remains a critical point to simplify the licensing process<\/strong>, while the regulatory<\/strong> framework<\/strong> should allow and facilitate<\/strong> the development of mobile<\/strong> and fixed-line<\/strong> networks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Which are the strategic goals of the Ministry and HTPC for the establishment and monitoring of a suitable regulatory and investment<\/strong> environment<\/strong>, aiming to develop high-speed broadband and close the digital gap<\/strong>, according to the goals of the European Digital Agenda and the National Broadband Plan.<\/p>\n

During the final section, ICT<\/strong> market leaders will take a detailed look into the factors that lead developments<\/strong>, what they expect<\/strong> from investments<\/strong>, and the method<\/strong> they will use to achieve maximum<\/strong> return<\/strong>. Partnership schemas, models of mutual benefits, and their effect on real-world economy, will point the way to a virtuous cycle of returns<\/strong>, which can be a paragon to all productive<\/strong> sectors<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>
